Norton House Hotel

Georgian Mansion At The Mumbles

I have never been to The Mumbles before so I was very excited to be asked to go to see a new show The Overlook Hotel by Histoire Productions but it meant I needed an overnight stay. I had a look online and found the very historic Norton House Hotel, it had great reviews and looked picturesque so I booked.

On arrival the first thing of note was the great location, literally across the road form the beach and the promenade into the Mumbles so location was spot on.

The building is a stunning Georgian façade, with elegant columns framing the doorway, it really was very pretty.

We had a warm welcome and were shown to our room which was a lovely touch.

There is a grand elegant staircase which takes you upstairs which is a quirky nod to the historic grandeur of the hotel from decades before.

Our room was functional and had everything we needed, decent size tv, hair dryer, fan etc. The mattress felt as though it needed turning and might have been coming to the end of its life but was adequate for this three-star hotel. The bathroom looked newly renovated and had a great powerful shower and decent toiletries.

We took advantage of the really beautiful gardens and sat outside enjoying the weather and were lucky to witness a retirement party who were making the most of the function rooms and patio space. The room was beautifully dressed and I could see it would be a lovely wedding venue and I could envisage cocktails on the terrace on a hot summer day. You can download their wedding brochure here:-

The staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble and the party atmosphere sounded great.

We had a good breakfast the next morning with a wide selection of continental offerings, a full English was included and for a small supplement (£4) you could have slightly more exotic things like Eggs Benedict. It was nice to see a Welsh option of cockles and lava bread although I wasn’t brave enough to try it. The breakfast room is delightful and on such a lovely morning as I had, it was bright and airy with doors opened on to the garden and plenty of staff to make sure things ran smoothly.
